Project description:

Balancing of the refrigeration unit of the direct-fired power plant to identify an efficient mode of operation with the aim to optimise operation of the refrigeration unit


Realisation in two project stages:

  • Balancing and appropriate standardised representation (already realised)
  • Online calculation of the optimal mode of operation and subsequent operator guidance

 

Consideration had to be given to the following:

  • 2 suction line pressures (LP 0.5 bar/-21°C, HP 2.5 bar/-5°C) 
  • 3 NH³ condensers (LP) : 0.5 bar to 2.5 bar
  • 5 NH³ condensers (HP)
  • 11 injection coolers upstream of the condensers

 

Technical highlights:

Drafting specification with the plant

  • Setting up an interface for energy consumption (condenser, cooling water pumps, ventilators / 6kV, 500V, 230V)
  • Realisation with Wonderware InTouch and Siemens S7-400 PLCs
  • Recording the mode of operation in an InSQL database
  • Calculating specific consumption and specific costs per machine and plant section (-21°C refrigeration/-5°C refrigeration)
  • Calculation of efficiency rating and COP per machine for LP/HP, -21°C/- 5°C, as well as for the entire plant
